Join James and Abi for a guided journey to discover the taste of Islay, the importance of provenance and the secret art of foraging. James Donaldson is The Botanist’s Professional Forager who will provide expertise on the flavours in your glass, and Abi Clephane will guide you through the liquid and how best to enjoy The Botanist.
About your instructor: James Donaldson, with his lifelong passion of the outdoors, became The Botanist’s first full-time forager in 2017. Following his degree in Biological Sciences at Edinburgh University, James spent time travelling before eventually returning to Scotland to take a job as a tour guide; for 15 years by introduced tourists to the Scottish Highlands and Islands, teaching them about the rich history of the landscape and environment. When tours began to focus on Scottish whisky, James found himself more drawn to Islay, home of The Botanist. Working as a forager enables James to be outdoors and share his botanical knowledge and passion for Islay. He is solely responsible for hand-picking, drying and ensuring the sustainable supply of the 22 wild botanicals that go into The Botanist.
